Keynote Speakers

Jenny SmallDr. Jenny Small

Jenny L. Small is an independent scholar, teacher, and facilitator on the topic of college student worldviews and an adjunct lecturer at Boston College. Dr. Small holds a PhD from the Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education at the University of Michigan, an MA from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a BA from Brandeis University. She most recently edited the volume Making Meaning: Embracing Spirituality, Faith, Religion, and Life Purpose in Student Affairs (2015), available from Stylus Press. Her first book, entitled Understanding College Students’ Spiritual Identities: Different Faiths, Varied Worldviews (2011), is available from Hampton Press. Dr. Small’s work has also been published in Research in Higher Education, Journal of College Student Development, Journal for the Scientific Study of Religion, About Campus, and Religion & Education, and in chapters in edited volumes. She is the immediate past chair of the ACPA Commission for Spirituality, Faith, Religion, and Meaning and an associate editor of the Journal of College and Character.

The Rev. Dr. Lucy A. Forster-Smith is Sedgwick Chaplain to the University and Senior Minister in the Memorial Church. Before joining Harvard in January 2014, she was Chaplain of the College and Associate Dean for Religious and Spiritual Life at Macalester College in Saint Paul, Minnesota for 20 years. Prior to that, she served in campus ministry positions at Carroll University, the University of Washington, and Muskingum College. She has Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Princeton Theological Seminary and is ordained in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A). Her most recent book, Crossing Thresholds: The Making and Remaking of a College Chaplain (Eugene, OR:  Cascade Books), was published in 2015. Rev. Dr. Forster-Smith also edited College and University Chaplaincy in the 21st Century:  A Multifaith Look at the Practice of Ministry on Campuses across America (SkyLight Paths Publishing, October 2013), a collection of essays written by chaplains in higher education settings that reveals the powerful ways that chaplains are engaged with religious, spiritual and moral lives of students and the campus community.

Preconference Event, August 2nd

Come spend most of a day with renowned Board Developer and Fundraising expert Galen Hora as he takes us through the intricacies of building an effective funding model and board for our ministries.  This cost is only 50.00 plus the cost of the extra night (40.00).  Don’t hesitate to come early.  We’ll begin this session at 1 PM on Tuesday August 2nd in the Common Space at Bentley.
